Top Ten Things Charities Get Wrong in Whistleblowing

Thursday 27 February – 9.00am

When staff and volunteers notice or suspect wrongdoing, it’s important that they’re able to speak up safely. Whistleblowing is a critical part of upholding the values of the sector, however charities don’t always get it right when dealing with such concerns.

Our breakfast seminar on Thursday 27th February, co-hosted with Bates Wells, is a unique opportunity to learn about things that charities are getting wrong, coupled with Bates Wells’ expertise in the legal responsibilities of charities.

As the organisation that runs the Charity Commission’s whistleblowing advice line – Protect is well placed to provide guidance and insight on the common mistakes charities make when it comes to managing whistleblowing systems.

We’ll cover, amongst other topics, allegations of misuse of charitable money, Serious Incident Reporting, the role of the board of trustees, conflict of interest and using appropriate – and proportionate – procedures.

  • The session will identify 10 key areas where charities could improve their whistleblowing procedure, working through a case study that develops those themes in a practical context.
  • Attendees will gain a real insight into how to handle whistleblowing better with practical, actionable steps to take forward.
  • The seminar is aimed at anyone working in a charity that regularly deals with whistleblowing.
  • Spaces are strictly limited so please register soon in order to avoid disappointment.
