Protect to host webinar with Azeem Rafiq

On 23 June, 10.00-11.00 BST Protect are hosting a Zoom webinar to mark World Whistleblowers Day, ‘Changing the World – one Whistleblower at a time.’ It will celebrate the contribution that whistleblowers make to society as well as highlighting the great personal cost they often face for speaking up. 

Attendees will learn about whistleblowers personal experiences as anti-racist campaigner Azeem Rafiq explains how his whistleblowing changed the culture within cricket as well as the abuse he received for speaking up. 

They will also hear from an expert panel about the importance employers play in creating a safe whistleblowing culture for all and implementing the correct steps to preventing detriment within the workplace. Experts will shed light on the dangers of leaving victimisation unchallenged and the after effects. 

The full panel includes: 

  • Azeem Rafiq – anti-racism campaigner and ex-professional cricketer on how his whistleblowing changed the culture of cricket, and the victimisation he faced  
  • Nicola Rabson – Employment Law Partner for Linklaters, on how employers can create a whistleblowing culture that prevents victimisation 
  • Georgina Charlton – former NHS Freedom to Speak Up Guardian on practical steps to take to protect whistleblowers 
  • Mark Steward – FCA Executive Director of Enforcement and Market Oversight, who will talk about the regulator’s view on the dangers of leaving victimisation of whistleblowers unchallenged
