Protect are pleased to support workers by taking part in the Mayor of London’s Employment Rights Hub, equipping London’s workforce with knowledge about their rights at work and how to enforce them.
In partnership with London-based civil society organisations, the Greater London Authority have produced twelve short videos answering frequently asked questions from Londoners about their rights in the workplace in the context of Covid-19, relating to issues like self-isolation, health and safety and the furlough scheme.
The videos have been developed in partnership with a number of expert charities and advice centres, including Latin American Women’s Rights Service, Focus on Labour Exploitation, the Eastern European Resource Centre, Protect, Mind, Working Families, Maternity Action, the Work Rights Centre, the Roma Support Group, Kalayaan and the Filipino Domestic Workers’ Association.
Protect’s Legal Officer Hari Raithatha and Head of Policy, Andrew Pepper-Parsons talk about employment rights during Covid 19- which you can view below
I’ve been dismissed after raising concerns with my employer (Video 11)
I’m being asked to work but I’m supposed to be on furlough (Video 12)
We hope that the videos will be a useful resource for Londoners experiencing problems at work. Some of the videos will have particular relevance for parents and those with childcare responsibilities, Londoners with poor mental health, Londoners with insecure immigration statuses, and Londoners at risk of labour exploitation. The videos are accompanied by links to trusted organisations who can provide direct advice to people about their rights at work.
The videos have been translated into a number of languages. Other information about Covid-19 translated into multiple languages is available on the GLA’s Covid-19 guidance hub.
