Protect are pleased to hear the BMA, the recognised trade union and professional body for doctors and medical students in the UK, has settled its dispute with its member, Dr Chris Day, and now offering him full support – and legal funding in his ongoing legal disputes.
Whistleblowing plays an absolutely essential role in the health sector but whistleblowers crucially need support in what is far too often a very lonely and distressing experience. Whilst we welcome the BMA acknowledges it has made significant improvements in how it supports whistleblowing cases, it is disappointing that Dr Chris Day has had to wait so many years to gain proper member support, enduring much stress and upset.
We wish the BMA had listened to Dr Day – who we have continued to support over the years – as well to our comments but we are pleased they have acknowledged and learnt from past failings.
